Enjoying Summer Vacation with the Children

Published by skietzman at 12:00 am under Travel Planning Tips Edit This

With schools getting ready to let out for the summer, it is time to start thinking about how you will be spending time with the children.  Some parents look upon the summer with almost a sense of dread.  After all, what are they going to do when the children become bored two weeks into vacation?

By planning some great mini-vacations and getaways with your children, you can stave off their boredome while also finding plenty of opportunities for family togetherness.  Try finding time to squeeze some of these activities into summer vacation and it will be sure to fly by before you know it:

  • Visit nearby zoos - a quick Internet search will probably bring up numerous zoos in surrounding cities that you never even knew existed
  • Take a trip to state parks - again, a search of the Internet will likely reveal several state parks within a couple hours from your home
  • Look into children’s museums and other museums with interactive exhibits - a growing number of family-centered museums are being developed, which is both fun and educational for the entire family
  • Visit your neighborhood park and enjoy a game of frisbee, softball, basketball, tennis, or whatever else may be available
  • Enjoy the many festivals that take place throughout the summer - if you venture outside of your town, you will likely be able to find a festival somewhere every weekend throughout the summer if you wanted to

The point is that you don’t have to plan an extravagant family vacation to enjoy spending time with one another.  A weekend getaway or even spending just a few hours at the park together can become one of the best family “vacations” you have ever had!
